Dental Implants

Even a single missing tooth makes it difficult to eat a balanced diet. Tooth loss can also leave you self-conscious about your appearance. Thanks to implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures, your smile can be fully restored. Learn how dental implants can help people in the Carlyss and Lake Charles, LA, areas.

See How Dental Implants Work

Implants are surgically placed in the jawbone to replace tooth roots. A connector piece called an abutment is then placed on the implant to support a prosthetic tooth. The implant placement is performed by skilled oral surgeons and periodontists we've partnered with for years. Our team handles the custom implant restoration.

Dental Implant Options How Dentists Can Treat Tooth Loss

There are numerous implant treatment options available depending on the extent of a patient's tooth loss and the health of their jawbone. We'll always tailor implant procedures to meet a person's needs.

Implant-Supported Crowns

For people missing one tooth, a crown supported by an individual dental implant is ideal. The implant and crown fill the gap in your smile, improving smile aesthetics and dental health.

Implant-Supported Bridges

Implant-supported bridges are excellent for people who are missing a few teeth in a row. The bridge spans the space left by the missing teeth, with two or more implants used to fix the restoration in place.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are ideal for people missing most or all of their teeth. The denture can be used on the top or bottom dental arch. The number of implants required for the denture varies based on the patient's needs.

Am I a Good Dental Implant Candidate?

It's quite likely you're a good candidate if your dentist determines you meet these qualifications:

  • You do not smoke or you can quit for good before surgery. Smoking or chewing tobacco inhibits healing.
  • You have enough healthy jawbone to support the titanium implants. If not, a bone graft may be needed.
  • You can devote several months to dental implant treatment from the first surgery to the final restoration placement.
  • You can commit to practicing regular brushing and flossing to preserve your implants and oral health.
  • You do not have dental issues like gum disease or severely decayed natural teeth. These would have to be addressed first.
  • You should be in good overall health, without chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.

The Dental Implant Procedure

For most patients, the dental implant process will take around four to six months. This treatment timeline offers a general overview of what to expect:

We partner with trusted specialists for complete and streamlined implant care.
We partner with trusted specialists for complete and streamlined implant care.

Initial Consultation

During your first visit, we'll perform a full dental exam and assess your candidacy for dental implants. We'll go over potential risks so you can make an informed decision.
1

First Oral Surgery

During the first oral surgery, the implant is placed into the jawbone. Sedation and local anesthetic are used to make the process virtually painless.

2

Osseointegration

Over the next four to six months, osseointegration takes place. The bone heals around the titanium implant as if it were a natural tooth root. This process makes implants successful.
3

Placing the Abutment

After osseointegration is complete, the implant abutment is placed. This piece connects the implant to the restoration.
4

Second Healing Period

Patients have another recovery period after the second oral surgery — usually four to six weeks — so their gums can heal around the abutment.
5

The Implant Restoration

Using advanced modeling and planning software, we create a custom crown, bridge, or denture that is natural-looking and long-lasting.

6

Attaching the Restoration

With the restoration completed, we'll make sure it fits comfortably atop the abutments. The final results of treatment are dramatic.
